Tabla Master Pradip Ghosh - Disciple of Pt. Kumar Bose, Benaras Gharana - Tabla Lesson - Keherwa Taal, AKA Kherwa, Kerwa, Keharwa (8 Beat Cycle used for devotional or 'light-classical' music)
NOTE: The astounding bass in these (and other) tabla videos from the bayan (left hand drum) cannot be reproduced by laptop speakers, or built-in monitor speakers. Much of the beauty and soul of tabla will not be heard. Use of decent external speakers or simply listening through headphones is HIGHLY recommended.
Pradip is a renowned Tabla player and has accompanied many artists and musicians of national repute.
Pradip is a disciple of Pandit Kumar Bose and has a degree of Sangeet Prabhakar (wh ich is similar to having a doctorate degree) in tabla. Pradipji also teaches tabla and has students spread out throughout the world.
Pradipji has learned material from all gharanas of tabla playing, but specializes in the Benaras Gharana, for which style his Guru is generally recognized as being one of the foremost living authorities. This style is characterized by including many 'pakhawaj bols', or sounds from the barell-drum precursor to the tabla. These 'bols' (or sounds / drum words) include very powerful strokes, a 'full-hand tirakita', and open hand slaps, all at tremendously high speeds. His repertoire also include a full range of more subtle and delicate techniques from this and other gharanas.

@freedybox I'm not sure! He hums songs a lot, or in classical pieces he hums a lehera in whatever taal. I found it so impressive that he could hum a lehera and play against it.

I think his playing is amazing, i also think that he should do a slower lesson breakdown so that fans like us can learn to play like him.....

namaste! I admire your enthusiasm! However, these are only meant to be lesson demonstrations. To learn to play like Pradipji or any tabla master would take lots of 1 on 1 instruction for many years along with tons of daily practice. Learning Classical Indian Music from books/videos is just not possible. Perhaps if you don't have a Guru in your area you can contact Pradipji to become his student. He IS very fond of teaching, and he travels a lot, even making special trips to teach.
