lol ,...ok for those who havent seen my post,...lol,..arch enemy iss arch enemy,... megadeth is megadeth ,....and metallica sound slike metallica ,....isnt better like this ?
There IS a use for genre. I mean, you can say that Arch Enemy and Megadeth and Cannibal Corpse are all "metal". It may even be useful to say "melodic death metal"
It gets out of hand with the "-core" genres that pop up every day and the dumb names like "viking metal" or "battle metal"
Viking Metal has been around for quite a while and many viking metal bands and have recieved rewards at the Metal Hammer golden gods (Amon Amarth). But other than that, you're toally right. New bands coming out every month with a new genre like "pirate metal"...like wtf?? Deathcore is really shit, only masters like Cannibal Corpse and Carcass can handle that kind of sound without sounding shit.

the term viking metal is older than melodich death metal
