Birth of Libertarians: Libertarian Fascist Coup Against FDR, 1934 - Yesterday's Ron Paulite "Hitler" Youth.
The "American Liberty League" (proto-Libertarianism) coup.
(Yesterday's Libertarian Party)
from "The Corporation", attempted coup by wealthy Free Market Laissez-Faire industrialists' group, "American Liberty League", beginnings of what would later be called the "Libertarian Party" and Libertarianism, (i.e. Ron Paul and Lyndon Larouche) which was for tiny weak government, total de-regulation, "Social Darwinism" (Survival of the Financially Fittest) and Adam Smith economics. early Paulite Larouche Libertarians were a fierce backlash against "Keynesian Economics" or "Mixed Economy" and Roosevelt's "New Deal" economic relief to struggling workers in the "Great Depression". these early Libertarians, allied and strongly sympathized with free market Laissez-Faire Fascists like Adolph Hitler, Benito Mussolini and Francisco Franco, whom they admired greatly, planned to use same tactics as these cruel extreme Capitalist corporatist Dictators against the FDR administration to keep the "New Deal" from happening by a failed clandestine conspiracy to overthrow President Franklin Roosevelt and the U.S. Government, 1934, to usher in a Fascist regime, to protect their vast wealth assets from being shared with struggling citizens to free the flow of credit and alleviate the bleeding economic suffering.
The League stated, it'd work to "defend and uphold the Constitution" and "foster the right to work, earn, save and acquire property."
General Smedley Butler, openly self declared "Social Democrat" and outspoken Anti-War General, since World War I, and strong supporter of FDR, was approached by proto-Libertarian Fascists, to lead the coup. Smedley, pretended to play along but refused to cooperate, tired of being what he felt was a gangster for Laissez-Faire de-regulated Capitalism, balked and reported his findings to Congress. The Conspirators mistakenly thought he'd assist them because of abundant affection he enjoyed among U.S. soldiers, who admired his work for veteran's affairs, government assistance and demand for compensation and benefits for soldiers, during and post-war. They didn't know he was a loyal, principled and determined Democrat for Social justice and equality. They failed to recognize his heart and loyalty was to Working Americans, as he came from humble beginnings, was for worker's rights (particularly veterans to get fair chance to employment and not discriminated against after serving our country) and organized labor.
NOTE: Smedley Butler is author of "War is a Racket".
Smedley Butler ratted on wealthy "American Liberty League" fascist wannabes.
When Roosevelt came to power in 1933 and it quickly became apparent he didn't plan to restrict his economic recovery measures to balancing the budget and optimism, a lot of the most wealthy Americans got very nervous about this "New Deal" business. August, 1934, some formed a lobby group called "The American Liberty League" to defend interests of the "economic royalists", as FDR came to call them.
The most dramatic event involving the Liberty League, was a charge by retired Gen. Smedley Butler, a popular figure at the "Bonus Army Protest", during Hoover Administration, put down under command of Eisenhower and MacArthur. He testified before a Congressional Committee about being approached by a representative of wealthy plotters wanting him to front a military coup against the federal government. He claimed it was some of the same people to form the Liberty League that were behind the plotting.
The Liberty League's main influence was in its anti-New Deal propaganda and support for legal action against pro-labor legislation. Roosevelt's landslide victory took the wind out of the Liberty League's sails. Though the organization lingered until 1940, activity ended with 1936 election, in which they "unofficially" supported Landon against Roosevelt.
"American Liberty League, 1934-1940" by Frederick Rudolph "American Historical Review", Oct 1950. Rudolph tells of the League.
With the Cheney-Bush administration pushing Social Security phaseout using same arguments 1936 Republican Party used against then-new program, the Liberty League's ideas still have relevance. It has direct descendants and reasonance in its political children, "The Libertarian Party", congressman, Ron Paul, Larouche and others. Despite that they were reactionary, even in 1934.
"The liberty of a Democracy is not safe if the people tolerate growth of Private Enterprise and privatization to the point where it becomes stronger than the Democratic State, itself. That, in its essence, is - Fascism -- ownership of government by a wealthy individual, by a group or by controlling private power." - Franklin Roosevelt.

  • REALLY? You think LaRouche and Paul are the children of the A.L.L?

You do know the actual ALL is now known as the American Enterprise Institute, correct?

You've taken a lot of "liberties" with the truth in your video description, that's for sure! I had a good laugh, thank you.

  • @WNxShisno

where have i "taken liberties with the truth in my video description"?

  • Q: Is it fascism when corporations run the government?

  • @loudotdinevski

but when government runs Corporations or owns or operates big businesses, that's the polar opposite of Fascism.

that's Socialism. Socialism isnt as bad as Fascism. Socialism can be in varying degrees.

unlike Fascism, Socialism is good for society the more there is except when it gets to a certain degree that too much control and then it damages society. like when no private industry is left.

  • @FoxMulderXFOxx So rounding up opponents and sending them to gulags, government brainwashing children to be obedient illiterate factory workers slaves, starving millions through failed government management of food supply and state control of industry the media ETC is the opposite of fascism? WTF!! What planet have you been on?

  • @Denverlibertarion

    gulags are Soviet, not Nazi.

Nazis had work camps & death camps.

authoritarian & totalitarian government are policies for any political group, Left or Right (and Far Right . . . Libertarian)

strong effective government (or efficient but sadistic if without democracy in society ) is neither Left or Right.

the measure of Left - Right isnt government or lack of.

Conservatives & Liberals (and Libertarians) all have big government. they just have different priorities & intentions.

  • @Denverlibertarion

all the things put with the list are general characteristics of any dictatorship whether Fascist Right or Marxist Socialist Left.

but Fascists dont do food management nor state control of media.

Fascists have private industry & business liberties to have their own media businesses that wealthy members operate willingly to promote loyalty.

illiterate factory worker slaves is only a Fascist Right way.

in Marxist Left, the workers are paid far better and are well educated ;-j

  • The constitution expressly says government should reflect "a more perfect union" (i.e. progress) and the writers of the Constitution intended progress by government in tandem with the representation of all people--no matter how lucky or successful they may be in life (or weak or strong). The founding fathers (like the socialist movement) were not of one mind has to how to create a more perfect union. Socialism isn't about creating a perfect utopia but the representation of everyone in society.

  • I must admit there is nothing that Liberty and libertarianism have in common. I am a moderate more or less but the extreme right and tea party frighten more than the extreme left. Much, much more. Keep up the good work FoxMulderXFOxx!

  • @WNxShisno I agree with you completely! There is nothing resembling libertarianism, here! Corporatism has NOTHING to do with libertarianism! They keep confusing free market capitalism with corporatism. This was a great movie, but your title of this sequence, FoxMuldererXFOxx, is WRONG!

  • To call the Democratic Party fascist is laughable. When the fascists came to power elections ended. Obama did not end free elections. Mussolini did. The Tea Partiers are not fascists, however their ideas on government and society would lead to fascism. Do nothing, see nothing, hear nothing government would have to resort to authoritarianism to maintain itself (e.g. Shay's Rebellion, Latin American dictators) or become a victim of authoritarianism (e.g. Fascism in classically liberal Europe).

  • @WNxShisno

I'm tired of having my paychecks raided for a system that is supposedly in so much trouble, and possibly collapsing before I'm even close to retirement.

  • @FoxMulderXFOxx

Larouche is not a Libertarian, he's a more moderate leftist.

Again, I say: "The ALL became the American Enterprise Institute". An institution which both men revile.

Also, you can't quote someone whom seized true wealth from the people in an economic statement (FDR). Social Security, Medicare, et. all should be 100% VOLUNTARY, with a clear path to removing yourself from the program. Any money paid to the point stays in the system, but you no longer have to pay.
