Collecting seeds in the Native Flora Garden at Brooklyn Botanic Garden: While most of the botanical community concentrates on tracking threats to biodiversity in the tropics, scientists at BBG are undertaking the most comprehensive study ever of plant biodiversity in metropolitan New York. Studying vegetation changes in highly populated areas is critical to understanding the future of life in our rapidly urbanizing world. Uli Lorimer, Native Flora Gardener, Kathy Crosby, Research Assistant, and Dr. Gerry Moore, Director of Horticulture and the New York Metropolitan Flora project (http://nymf.bbg.org), demonstrate seed collecting.
