What are those white spots on the wood? I've got those and am trying to figure it out. Thought they were eggs from my amano, but now I see their eggs are black...

@JMCraig well if your still wondering after 2 years. i have 2 ammano shrimp in my tank and i picked the largest ones. My male betta pokes but doesnt bite.

@JMCraig Be Careful!!! I have had up to 3 bettas (male) in my 29g planted tank and if the bettas get hungry they may munch on amanos. I immediately started supplementing my bettas diet with some freeze dried brine shirmp so they wont get carnivorous

We tried it with a female betta. She didn't harm the shrimp, but she was inquisitive enough to the point where she was perpetually annoying them. Not sure if a male betta would be worse or not.

I transplanted the pregnant female to a smaller tank with fresh water, and then added salt water after the eggs had been hatched and the mother removed. Unfortunately, I lost the babies. From everything I've read, nobody really has the formula for success 100%. There's a lot of blind luck involved.

h3nkku... In the wild, the eggs are hatched in fresh water, and then carried out to sea by the tidal action of streams. The eggs will hatch in fresh water, and survive for about a week without salt water.
