This tutorial demonstrates how to easily create a panic button that can be used to instantly close any application running on your computer.

It can be utilized for both personal and security reasons.

One example of security use is the notorious "Antivirus 2009" crapware that attempts to force the user to install it by giving a false virus infection notification. You may have encountered this beast of an ad while surfing and it will not allow you to close your browser! In fact, it creates a false close button that tricks you into clicking it! PURE FREAKIN' EVIL!

The panic button will save the day by forcing all of the windows associated with the ad to close. :-)

I hope you find this helpful.

  • Somebody watched too much porn..

  • @LuskBlake Hahah It's possible ;-) but the idea for this came from friends and family being hit by rogue anti-virus programs that would hijack your browser and install if you clicked anywhere. A panic button seemed like a bonus, though admittedly DOS is not my preference. I just did it for fun.

  • already to complicated. windows key + L

  • @xXhighwolfXx hahah That's a good screen cover, but the 'offending' process continues to run and your speakers will continue to play as well. ;-)

  • not working on windows xp

  • @DjsamNo1 Make sure that you don't have file extensions hidden in your Folder Options. This is the number one cause of failure on this. What people often end up with is a file.bat.txt, but the .txt is hidden so they don't know and the file just keeps opening in notepad.

  • I CAN'T CREATE IT!!

  • @Aardaerimus I usually mute, if i have any porn up. not because of others in the house.it's because the moaning of girls in porn is just to annoying. it doesn't sound real, or even that they just don't seem to enjoy it, especially if its Asian. they sound like 5 year old girls in an anime.

Though others are not like me so yeah your right about the offending noises coming from the speakers.

  • @Aardaerimus I don't know about hidden file extensions but I have Vista and got the .bat.txt too but It was visible so I renamed it just bat and it worked!

  • net stop will shut down services, a lot of applications can be closed this way, i have a script running on startup that kills about 10 services i don't want running, that my dad dosen't like me shutting down for him, so i have to do it on only my xp account

  • Right-click -> Edit works on XP too.
