"Padarn", built in 1922, at the Llanberis Terminus Station

The Snowdon Mountain Railway is a 800mm gauge narrow gauge mountain railway using the "Abt" rack and pinion system in North Wales. It opened in 1895 and travels for 4.7 miles from Llanberis to the summit of Snowdon, the highest peak in England and Wales.

It is the only public rack and pinion railway in the United Kingdom, and after more than 100 years it is still in operation.
