We were cutting a hardwood bottom out near Columbus, Ms and ran across this massive oak. We hardly ever see timber this big in our area. This video was shot in August 09 and it was HOT

  • Yes, that's a 394xp

  • I live in columbus ms where was this?

  • @manostihl Right off the side of the bypass in the New Hope area.

  • the saw jumping about in the cut is just shortening the life of the bearings.\

not really a big deal, I just get tired of guys boring every single tree, leaning or not. its a lack of skill when you do every tree the same way. . .

  • Its more effort to do it that way and I had just filed my drags so the saw would make a good bite and that was the first cut since the filing.

Its the SAFEST way, no matter what the tree is doing. That tree WILL not leave the stump even if it hits something on the way to the ground. Who cares about a $1000 saw when your life is on the line every time you saw into a tree

  • nice tree, but that bore cutting is rough on your saw..

  • Its not rough on the saw. That saw I'm using is a 1993 model and has alot of run time on it

  • was that a husqy 394XP?

  • @cotontop3 Too many people underestimate the dangers of felling even small timber and

are injured or worse... Well done, work safe. NHlocal.

  • Great cut...but why did that tree have to go? Looked sound to me.

  • An excellent point Cotontop3. I've seen too many injuries due to people cutting the "cheap & easy" way versus using the "smart & safe" method.

  • That's cool. How long is that bar? Great video, thanks.

  • Thanks for a great video! I want to learn the best ways of cutting, and this is definitely one of the best. And it appears to be one of the safer ways. I'm in southern California and the oak here, while different than in Mississippi for sure, can get big. I'm cutting more Eucalyptus than anything else; and they, too, are oftentimes tall, with thick trunks at the base.

  • We hardly see timber this big in our area...... Let cut that Shit DOWN!!! Makes allot of freak-in sense dude
