My favourite scene from my favourite film. Briefly, postman Jules (Frederic Andrei) is an opera fan obsessed with the eponymous 'Diva' Cynthia Hawkins (played by real-life opera singer Wilhelmenia Wiggins Fernandez) who refuses to record. He has managed to make a bootleg recording of the singer and takes his friend, the young thief Alba (Thuy An Luu) to his amazing loft apartment to play it to her. Oh, and he also happens to be on the run from a couple of psychopathic hit-men (one of who is a very young Dominique Pinon) after an incriminating cassette he has in his possession - just in case you were wondering what the fairground sequence is all about! This was the film that introduced me to opera, and a larger audience to a relatively unknown opera called 'La Wally' by Alfredo Catalini. I've never managed to find another film with the young Vietnamese actress Thuy An Luu in, but based on her performance in 'Diva' she ought to have made a lot more.
how old was she?

Wilhelmenia Wiggins Fernandez, actrice américaine qui chante aussi... Mais comme on est loin dans "Diva" de la perfection de cette même aria quand elle est interprétée par Maria Callas, ou, mieux encore, par la divine Tébaldi !...

@77hodag p.s. If you haven't seen the film, Jules meets Alba when she is shoplifting some records from his friend's store by slipping the records inside her model portfolio (which is filled with nudes).

Je n'aime pas de Beethoven. LOL! This film puts me right back into the 80s, in a dirty little art film theatre in Bloomington, IN. I have both the DVD & VHS,
Il est classique!
