**IN THE NEWS
Doctor Donald M. Suggs, publisher and executive editor of The St. Louis American, and president of the St. Louis American Foundation welcomed more than eleven-hundred guests and foundation supporters, at the paper's 24th annual Salute to Excellence in Education Scholarship and Awards Gala, which was held Friday evening at the America's Center in downtown St. Louis. Eight 2011 Salute to Excellence in Education awardees were honored and made remarks on videos produced by KSDK. 2011 Stellar Performer Tony Thompson, who is the President and CEO of Kwame Building Group, was honored as well. **In other news a former trial attorney and veteran counsel for state government, Nimrod Chapel Jr., age 41, is challenging 20-year incumbent Mary Ratliff for president of the Missouri State Conference of the NAACP. The election by NAACP delegates will be held Saturday, Sept. 24.
** In an article titled Judicial Change you can believe in, guest columnist Adolphus M. Pruitt the second, discusses the changes that have occurred on the Supreme Court under the Obama administration. Pruitt explores diversity and the number of minorities, women, and Gay and Lesbian candidates that have been appointed to the high court under President Obama's lead.
**In entetainment, If your little kids or your BIG kids have been itching to see the return of The Lion King in 3D, you won't want to miss Kenya Vaughns interview of St. Louis' own homegrown actor, Mr. Robert Gill-lee-umm. Guillaume returns to theaters as the voice of Rafiki in the immensely popular animated tale. The incredibly accomplished actor says he's all jazzed up about the Lion King's return. **IN SPORTS—another hometown hero makes it big as St. Louisan ,Devon Alexander "The Great", signed with Golden Boy Promotions. According to the article written by Maurice Scott Jr., Devon said he feels this partnership will be a good fit for him and his team. Alexander says he is really looking forward to getting back into the ring to show the world and his hometown that he is going to bring another world championship back to St. Louis."
