I was born too late to enjoy "Your Show of Shows." My mother would rave about it, but when I saw Sid Caesar in the 60s, he didn't seem all that funny to me. I found out later on he had had a drinking problem, which led to the dulling of his comic timing. Then I saw a documentary about the show in the movies, and later a PBS documentary. My mother always was a smart woman!

You didn't "have to be there," but growing up seeing him on TV as a kid was great. There were a lot of very happy clean comedians in the 50s that greatly enhanced my life. My favorite was Steve Allen and his crew, Louie Nye, Don Knotts, et al.
