Singing this song I came up with the other day.
Took me a while to get there, as you'll see at the end of the video.
Hope you like it.

Words and music by me :]
****************************************************
I, when I asked about your mind and the things you'd left behind
I thought I told you slowly
You didn't know quite what to do
Didn't have a word to say
But I guessed that anyway.

When you look into her eyes you'll turn to skin and bone
Her heart is gone

Because a heart's too heavy when it's made of stone
So she keeps it on her sleeve and carries it around
In case she ever needs a visual prop for a tale of all the men who've done her wrong

When you put me on the bench, gave me time to repent
I prayed it to be over
I walked a mile out to the sea
You said "Oh gracious me, are we just growing older?"

When you look into her eyes you'll turn to skin and bone
Her heart is gone

Because a heart's too heavy when it's made of stone
So she keeps it on her sleeve and carries it around
In case she ever needs a visual prop for a tale of all the men who've done her wrong

She likes whisky and cigarettes
And I like rum and thunder cats
She likes Sundays in the park
And I like driving after dark
I'm not into dancing
And she don't do romancing
I tried to do my moves but I guess I failed
Tried to keep up with the crowd but it turned me pale, oh no

When you look into her eyes you'll turn to skin and bone
Her heart is gone

When you look into her eyes you'll only feel alone
Her heart is gone

Because a heart's too heavy when it's made of stone
So she keeps it on her sleeve and carries it around
In case she ever needs a visual prop for a tale of all the men who've done her wrong.

  • when are you coming to the states. I want to see your gift of music live. Or at least put up a song everyday so I can get my fix. Or just keep doing what you're doing cause this song is great and you know it!

  • I would LOVE to come over to the states.. I will do it one day!

  • do it soon, nothing is stopping you, come. Can't you hear it calling?! SoCal waits with open arms; the sun, the beaches, and the LA music scene (which could really use you!) COME.

  • haha the only thing stopping me is money.. or lack of it... but I will be there one day! x

  • That's not one song, that's an oratorio. If ever a song needed a decent arranger, it's this one because it's a huge drama but one guitar isn't quite enough to bring out its...um, essence. I think. But who am I? Some idiot. Never mind, keep it up, love your stuff.

  • It sounds a lot like an Ani DiFranco song

  • this is really quite good...creative...original...can't put a tag on it...hmmmm...her heart is gone...the ending made me laugh for real!! Five of those star thingies...sub...way to go!!!

Randy...yeah I know...all my UK friends get a great big chuckle...but is really is my name...

  • No, I really like it, I don't think its stale. A lot of Laura's songs cover different topics and that keeps it interesting. (I'm merely pointing out that, indeed, that DOES keep it interesting.) I really like the Hangman song because it branches out beyond the usual tropes.

  • It seems like this comment should be for someone else. Who is getting stale, or hasn't had their imagination sparked? Is it the person that has lots of original songs and videos, or you, the person that has none? I'm not sure what the Arctic Monkeys have to do with anything they are a group, not a solo artist. 1. Just keep writing your novel.

  • The lyrics on this song are pretty good, but there are a couple things you can do to keep from getting stale. 1. Keep a notebook(which you probably do already). 2. Be observant of the way other people act. 3. Read fun books that will spark your imagination.

I've been watching videos of the newest Arctic Monkeys songs, and they are colorful and filled with great images and metaphors that keep things interesting, even two albums after the first "observations about Sheffield punks" album.

  • Wow. That's a cool song. . . I like the spanish-style guitar breaks.

  • I love it!
