This video presents the human capacity in understanding complexity, whether it be a light-bulb or molecular machine. A scientific argument can be made to refute Darwinian evolution; but I feel as though such arguments are only necessary for those with "philosophical" issues. In any case, the abundance of life--and its complexity--warrants belief in a higher power (most practical).

  • If life is simply to complex to originate on its own and therefore needed some sort of 'higher power' then I am sure you recognize that any sort of higher power would be too complex to originate on its own and therefore needs a creator, which in turn, needs a creator, which in turn then needs a creator ad infinitum.

  • Anything within time constraints requires a creator/cause! Anything eternal does not, since it always existed -- the original source.

  • That is hardly an answer. Its what we like to call a cop out. The question I posed to you is one that theists such as yourself cannot answer except by making up a hardly sensible answer about how god is eternal. Simply put, you say that anything as complex as life requires a creator, but such a creator would be complex enough to warrant a creator of his own. Please next time you attempt to answer the question do not answer with a nonsensical riddle about how you believe god is eternal.

  • I'm not trying to argue with you, but current science demonstrates that something or a cause "outside" length, width, space and time created the Cosmos. Whatever you wish to name it, such transcends the natural realm that you and I inhabit. It's independent, and therefore, radically different! I highly recommend you study physics, mathematics and/or logic covering the topic of origin. I'm just trying to help.

  • Sorry but simply because Science does not know the answer at the moment is certainly not an excuse to assign it to god. You say yourself, 'CURRENT'

What we do not know today does not mean we will not ever know. Why is god an explanation for anything? It is nothing more then a shrug of the shoulders, an excuse to not look any further. Imagine if people had simply agreed that sickness was the work of god, and never bothered to look any further.

  • Where is your mind?

  • Spare me such ignorant comments. God was once the only logical explanation for how the world moved, or how the stars were created, god has always been the explanation for what is the limit of our knowledge. He was even once used to explain gravity, and yet we constantly find that there is an explanation for anything.

Truth is relative and thank goodness for that. If we all lived according to the bible, we'd have women as unclean when they have their periods and still keep slaves.

  • Dawkins will soon be with Hitchens. God.

  • @kuba2ve Well, this goes into a whole different area which is the god of the gaps. In other words, anything that we cannot explain is proof that god exists. However the problem is that we know more as time advances. So while once god was the explanation for the planets moving, we later find out that no, its the gravity of the sun plus hundreds of mitigating factors. Explain gravity, you'd have to ask smarter minds then me for a real explanation but it is the force exerted by dense materials

  • @zoltanical I used to be an atheist, even stronger in my position than you, but growing up and seeing life from a different perspective, I have to admin that I used to be an idiot. There's absolutely nothing wrong with thinking there's more to reality than what you can measure using the physical-reality-bound instruments. What about the existence of other dimensions? Do you think all there is the 3D world? Do you think Love can be explained as the result of evolution?

  • @torrent29 Okay, you can explain gravity, but you can't explain where gravity came from?

  • @torrent29

    1) "Science" doesn't exist except as category in college course catalogues. There are scienceS (areas of knowledge), scientists, and the scientific method. But "Science" does not know or do anything.

    2) If the physical sciences can and only do study the properties and interactions of matter, energy, space, and time, then by definition it cannot know or ever learn of anything beyond them. Physics has found in the Big Bang a singularity beyond which it can never see.

  • The problem of ALL deities is that they are infinite, and basic mathematical cognitions will show you that they are impossible to be part of a limited reality. You can also read Spinoza on this.

A further argument, are you good because of god? I consider myself a good person not because I have or need to be, but because I want to be. How would you be if there was no god? Would you become evil? For too long humanity has been a victim of supersticion and religious doctrines of ignorance....

  • Your simple argument lacks in two major points: First the fact that you feel something it doesnt necessarily mean it is the truth, a nice analogy is the birthday paradox...Second the most practical belief is neither in god or atheism, but a shaping of belief according to the group of people you are around, denoting falsehood, something you seem to be apologetic of.

  • @torrent29 god gave us a brain, humans were ment to use it. And in a way sickness is often times the result of sin ex. HIV, AIDS, Crabs, ect.
