In April 2002 Garbage hired me to shoot their "homecoming" show in Milwaukee for the first leg of the "beatifulgarbage" tour. Of course I was honored as I was, and still am, a fan of the band.
My approach to them was a low impact high quality digital production. No cranes, jibs, trucks, etc...just a down and dirty documentary for the fans. Don't expect a high budget plush looking show like someone like Sophie Muller would have done for them. This is guerilla work at it's best.
The band had been on the road for a bit and was in top form by the time they got to Milwaukee.
The fact that we recorded this show became very significant because as you may or not know Butch Vig had to drop off the tour due to a serious health condition and missed most of the remaining dates. In fact this may be the last recorded performance on the tour and that made it all the more significant as a live document.
The other plus was that Shirley was in fine voice that night after being dogged with throat problems on some their live dates. At this point I was told that she was taking extra care of herself, and it shows on this clip. (BTW - I can't wait to see what she's up to next.)
Tech notes: We used 6 Canon XL1 cameras, and 2 Canon Eluras cameras.
The Eluras are the drumkit cams. I've added a bit of filtering to the footage in post to punch up the color.
Audio is a 2 ch. stereo mic from the soundboard w/o any post.
So far the show is unreleased, but I've heard talk that if a "Best of" ever gets released this will get a look for inclusion. Here's a teaser of what the evening was like, and don't ask me to post more because legally I cannot.
Garbage always put on a kick ass show and this proves it in spades.
Big thanks to my crew that night, Bruce Johnson who served as my DP, Gail at Q Prime, Bill Berrol, and Garbage's crew who made us all feel *special*.
BTW - I know the date on the opening slate in incorrect. Forgot what year it was!
Enjoy and be well!

Thanks so much for posting. I love it! Do you know which venue this show was at? My guess is the Eagles Ballroom, but it looks like it might have been a bigger place like the Arena or the Bradley Center. As a Milwaukee native, I am curious : )
