This is a motor that I recently built just for the fun of it. it took about 2 months total to build and here is a video showing it running and the different parts that make it up.

  • What did you use for the core of your electromagnet

  • @nosekta1234 Just a plain old nail

  • Very nice. Do you ever have to replace the reed switch or do you have a transistor with it as well? Is it better to have 4 magnets or two strong ones or does it not really matter?

  • @llorencaguiar I had to replace the reed switch only once so far in the 3 years I have had the motor. I did not use a transistor. And if you want high rpm, use 4 strong magnets. I originally used 2 strong magnets on the spool but it wasn't enough power and since I did not have 2 more magnets of the same size as the ones already on the motor, I just stacked smaller ones. Think of it this way: stacked magnets in 2 locations is high torque. Magnets in 4 locations is high rpm. Hope that helps!

  • Hey, how did you construct your rotor? I'm doing a high school project and i'm inspired to do a brushless motor! Also, is it possible to use a powerpack instead of a reed switch and transistor?

  • @asianant67 The rotor is simply an empty spool with a 5/16" hole diameter, spinning on a stationary colored pencil. There are 2 sets of magnets on either side with their north poles facing outward. You need a reed switch for this type of motor, and there is no transistor needed. It is simply a battery, electromagnet, and a reedswitch in 1 circuit. You can find how-to's on the web to help with your project if you search "reed switch motor." have fun!

  • @horizonflyer9 thanks man.

  • HA....that's COOL! I made a brushed motor in JR High long time ago. Seeing this makes me want to try a brushless one now. Thanks for sharing.

  • so cool

  • @horizonflyer9 thanks mate!
