My laptop takes 30 -60 seconds from opening the lid to respond to any input. After that time, boot up is acting as it should. Why this delay? Asus support told me to load system defaults in bios but hell, can't I boot from CD first? BIOS wont really allow me to do anything else than watch the temps.

Me - "Do you understand?"
Asus support - "Yes, do you have a lot of programs running?"
Me - "Ehhh, that isnt relevant since not even BIOS have loaded at that moment, n00000000000000b!!!!"

  • Got the G53SW-A1 2 weeks ago and I now have the same problem. Also happens when I close the lid when the laptop is on, screen doesn't come back on and the power button doesn't work.

  • @sbrideau2000 Changing the motherboard fixed the problem for my laptop. Still no new vga drivers or BIOS update :) I modded in some new drivers myself. Its not that hard...

  • wow, how long did you had that computer when it did that to you? i just bought mine 3 days ago and have no problems, everything runs perfect , call me one of the lucky ones lol, hope it stays like that

  • @Shadowx209 I recommend you return it asap dude. I got mine back from repairs. Now it boots fine but some of the fn+F# combinations does not work. Keyboard illumination is dead too. ----> back to Holland. The graphics sucks too. Its not a normal GTX460M, did you notice? It is a special blend that needs the outdated drivers on the asus website. This is the last item ill ever buy from them. (The first symptoms of boot problem occured after about a week)

  • Eh, my girlfriend has just started work as a tech support of mobiles company, guess what - she doesn't really know what she's doing as well.

If you are sure it's about the lid, I'd suggest you to do as follows:

-There must be some kind of sensor to let laptop know the lid is open. See if it's not jammed or something.

-Update BIOS, and don't freak out this time. ;)

-If none of the above works and you can exchange your laptop for a working one, do it.

    Good luck!

  • @rageagainstthebath It cant be the lid because the delay time is less (none) if I have had the computer turned on before. ASUS doesnt like BIOS and does not release new versions :) (same with graphics drivers...). I will return it soon but first, FULL DRIVE ENCRYPTION! :D

  • @StefConEnterprises Ok. At first I wasn't able to install the latest drivers but since version 285 I'm able to install the official nvidia drivers.

  • @Shadowx209 no i have had problems from day 1

  • maybe yours came defective,

  • I've heard that the pin that connects to the power button dislodges easily but idk

  • @StefConEnterprises I think ASUS service doesn't give a shit about your data, even if it's illegal, confidential or valuable. Format C: is what in 99% cases happens as a first step of service routine, because it's easiest and solves 99% of the problems. Considering this, I'd suggest a backup instead of encryption.

Anyways, given that details I'm guessing it's a power related problem. Does it happen with AC plugged in? Have you tried unplugging all external devices, especially USB?

    Take care!
