I needed a wood stove for the fishing shack my brother and I are building I wanted the stove to be compact and very low cost. I got an old hot water tank from a guy I work with for free. The bottom of the tank was rusty so I used the top of the tank. I was inspired by various gas bottle stoves that I found on YouTube.

  • I do not know how often you plan to use it, you may want to install a metel grate or fire brickes on the bottom so the fire will not burn through. Man this thing looks really good. Great JOB...

  • @ONEOLDCHIEF Do you think the ceramic coating that water heaters have would be enough to protect the stove from burning through?

  • I don't really have a use for a rocket stove it would be fun to build one though. I couldn't really give you a recommendation on which plasma cutter to buy I have only ever used the one we have at work not even sure who makes it, great asset for fabrication though. Thanks for your comment I have seen your work on your channel also, I never found part 2 of your wood stove build. I would like to see the finished stove or didn't you make a second video of the finished stove.

  • u need to use black stove pipe or exhaust pipe from a bus it is thicker that dryer vent pipe but u did a great job. on the inside of the stove u can weld a plate a inch or two down from the top and put one inch holes all over the plate it acts as a heat sheild and a secondary burn and keeps the heat in the stove and not going out the flue

  • @404redone Yes I did switch to stove pipe, I also installed a baffle and a flue damper which I didn't show on the video.

  • High temperature header paint was used.

  • Oh! So cute! I like your little stove...it's so cute you could put it inside a house, and everyone would love it. I thought when you got to the new legs they were so cute WITH LITTLE FEET!

The legs have just the right angle, which gives it personality : ) or an attitude, but a nice one.

    Thanks for sharing : )

  • 2nd, this double layerin of the steel, for the door has worked real good for me and i hopr for you. nice looker your stove. peace

  • your door, i made a stove that is pretty sweet, check it out everybody. your stove looks nice. but your door design. this is how i did mine. i used a compressor tank and the blank that i cut out of the tank itself. i ground the edges and then put back up tacked it in and then cut another section out of the tank bigger by about a inch the whole way around the smaller blank. this makes for a more of a airtight seal and after a few fires these little voids will fill up and make door seal even

  • Keep in mind dryer pipe is rated for a MUCH lower temp than...oh, never mind, you figured that out, LOL. Nice work!

  • Beautiful work. I've done work along similar lines. I think the plasma cutter has to be one great tool for this kind of job. I get it done with a decent electric saw, but it takes a bit of time per cut. Do you have any recommendations for a plasma cutter? BTW If you want to get some crazy ideas Google "rocket stove".
