A wartime cartoon starring Bugs Bunny that relates buying wartime bonds to being a patriot citizen. Controversial near the end where Bugs Bunny appears in blackface.

I'm African-American, and II don't find this racist. If you're going to watch something from before the civil rights movement then you have to take into consideration the time in which it was made. So Bugs parodies Al Jolson, no big deal. People need to lighten up, and stop making mountains out of molehills.

Today, people would have a problem with this because it suggests a 'freedom man' is going to come to your door and ask if you'd like to give money to the federal government.

He's not in Black face, per se, he's imitating Al Jolsen, who became famous appearing in Black face. And if we hide all the images from our past we now find racist, how will future generations ever know what racism looks like?

Imagine seeing this today as an ad before a movie like "The Lorax". Oh god.

Bob Clampett, who directed this "short-short", was the one who redrew Elmer as "fat" [reflecting the actor who provided his voice, Arthur Q. Bryan], beginning with "Wabbit Twouble", released at the time this was originally seen in theaters.
