@SheSister first, its only $250. which was the starting price of the 3DS.
it is backwards compatible, you can play PSP, PS1, and some ps2 ported games on it from the PS Store.
the battery life is the same as a 3ds.
the specs of a playstation vita is like chuck norris and mick tyson had a baby and gave it steriods! the specs of a 3ds is like a soviet russian reversal of the ps vita. 3ds has a lot of n64 ports (i love N64) ps vita has more original games. please reconsider uour opinion

It's sooo freaking expensive! like 400$! and thats Without the games! is it backwards compatiable? whats the batterytime?
I acually think that the 3DS is a better buy, and it only costs around 200$

@1superalex longer than that. I think it was November 2010 at the Tokyo game show. I remember seeing it live.
