that's because they were, lol. mardus (the banjo player) was originally a guirist for some thrash metal band.

i saw these guys last night at the cotillion. i don't really listen to that type of music..but i love it after seeing them lol.
These guys play their intstruments like they've been in metal bands before..they are really talented..i would encourage anyone to go to one of their shows

Mandolin player is Wayne Gottstine, who is also a world-class songwriter and guitarist. Check out his other band The Sluggos.
