@TotalInabilityTruth Sad. There can be no true free will as the philosopher stated -- power to avoid pain and to gain pleasure -- so long as we are self-seeking rather than seeking God and finding Him in Jesus. There can be no true goodness apart from sanctification through submission. There can be no true free will, as the philosopher described, in separation from God in seeking dominion over God. Adam and Eve lost free will in the fall. It is restored in sanctification thru submission.
@TotalInabilityTruth We gain power to walk as Jesus walked as we submit to God the Father (us through Jesus Christ our Lord by the Spirit) the same way Jesus was in reverent submission to God the Father. This truly is baptism in the Spirit for us in dying to self and arising in newness of life in Jesus. Then, as John 15 states, we ask what we will and it is done by the Father. God gives us the desires of our hearts. Thru submission, we gain true free will. Sanctification produces this.
Well done again. I'll comment. Perhaps "in the wrong spot". You talked in the last tape about being helpless and powerless to determine what "comes your way". This is true so long as we are not fully submitted to God through Jesus Christ. But, as we submit to Jesus as He submitted to the Father -- we REALLY "gain control". It's so counter-intuitive to our flesh. By giving up control in relation to God, thru submission to God, we gain dominion over the flesh, this world, the devil.
Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that HAVE OBTAINED LIKE PRECIOUS FAITH with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: 2 Pet 1:1
"obtained" (received by lot) is used 2 other times in the NT:
1) When the soldiers cast lots for Jesus' robe
2) When the apostles cast lots in Acts to choose one to fill the office of Judas.
Faith is the seal of the Spirit on all of God's elect, given to them by the Father through the righteousness of the Son.
HE SAID FAITH IS A GIFT BUT THE RULE IS TO TAKE IT COLLECTIVELY THEREFORE
GRACE THROUGH FAITH = SALVATION
SALVATION IS THE GIFT OF GOD
THE SAME GRAMMATICAL STRUCTURE OCCURS IN 1 Cor. 6:6 6:8, Phil. 1:28, Rom. 13:11. IN EACH OF THESE THE DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUN, THIS,REFERS TO THE WHOLE PRECEDING CLAUSE WITH THE THOUGHT CENTERING ON THE VERB THUS IT DOES NOT REFER SPECIFICALLY TO FAITH BUT THE IDEA AS A WHOLE. GRACE THROUGH FAITH= SALVATION WHICH IS THE GIFT OF GOD.
