Clip two from Jay O'Jay's colt starting video entitled Journey to Connection from his series of Horse Training DVD Videos.
The journey begins with Jay outside the round pen and with an unbroken 3-year-old filly inside. Jay explains how the round pen is the ideal venue to communicate, show leadership and form a connection with your horse. Jay demonstrates when and how to first enter the round pen. Then, as Jay starts to establish himself as the "dominant horse of the herd", he begins the steps to cause and control movement. Using a combination of verbal cues and body movement, Jay continues working with the horse to reinforce the movement, change the filly's direction, and control her speed.

  • Awesome how many days were involved in this set of 12 videos?

  • A suggestion is to have the camera zoomed out so the viewer can see your body posture and actin especially when turning the horse. Seems to me everyone you made the horse turn the camera was zoomed on the horse which isn't helpful because we've all seen horses run before. Just my 2 cents, thanks for the video!

  • My horse sometimes runs me into trees. Is that how she shows me she doesn't like me?how do I stop her from doing that.

  • I have a very stubborn mare. She is fine when you saddle her and mount her but i guess you could say she is part barn sour and part Balker. She wants to go where she wants to and will either stop completely and back up, sometimes with a small rear or buck and then she wont go forward! i smack her butt, kick her even, i tried a crop but nothing is working... very frustrating, any advice??? :/

  • @horseluv4life Woops my bad... there was another page

  • @Duchesse1981 stephandjake4eve doesn't have a round pen... And I DID listen. To all of the 12 vids.

  • Didn't u listen??? You want to establish leadership and trust. You don't need a lungeline for that. You use body language and voice.... good horsemen don't need either saddle nor bridle.

  • Use a lunge line

Type in ( lunging a horse) on youtube. Pretty simple...
