Talib Kweli owns the main stage at ROOTS Fest 2011, an empowering national celebration in West Baltimore.

ROOTS Fest participants will dance over the borders between fractured neighborhoods, coming together around a celebration of their culture, as Alternate ROOTS celebrates 35 years of its valuable work," says Carlton Turner, Executive Director of Alternate ROOTS, the group that produced the festival with the West Baltimore based group Culture Works. "The Festival will unite communities all over Baltimore and the greater metro area in one voice, celebrating local artists and the communities they work in." Alternate ROOTS is one of the country's top arts and culture organizations with a long history of engaging artists and communities to highlight community assets and address critical issues. Alternate ROOTS elevates the power of art in social change.
