  • stupid argument... this is one of the most difficult arias to sing - what else should he do??? dancing?

  • @Randidan squillo is the "ring" in a voice. I call it the "singers formant." It's this ring that allows the human voice to be heard over an orchestra w/o amplification. It is not just for Italianate singing, any serious opera singer MUST have it. It's not the size of a persons voice, but how it's produced that controls this. A large voice that's badly produced can be drowned out by the orchestra whereas a soubrette soprano with a well-produced sound easily carries to the back of the house.

  • ...oh oh, no squillo. Two ore three years ahaed and his voice is just boring.

  • Whoa! very hard aria.... excelent performance.... muy bueno este señor...

  • Solid and, like most Americans, better suited to French and German than Italian

  • @spintotenor83 You have "worked with machines that that can tell you if squillo is present or not (and whose "squillo" have the highest pitches.)" ??? Yeah, right. As far as your "friend" Domingo goes, I would challenge you to find one example on recording of him singing a top note that is ringing out with squillo. It will be hard since Domingo had just about the worst top notes of any tenor.

  • @tdeane34 Firstly, I have worked with machines that can tell you if squillo is present or not (and whose "squillo" have the highest pitches.) Secondly, I have the ears to hear it. I'm really not implying that you don't, but you are wrong with Domingo. Squillo isn't a magical quality or mystical sound nor does it always color a voice. My friend... Domingo's voice definitely ring's with overtones and at times with very obvious squillo!

  • @spintotenor83 I think perhaps you don't understand what squillo is.

  • @tdeane34 Umm.. Domingo had true squillo in spades! Yes sometimes it would go in and out but he definitely had squillo and at times in abundance! Be careful with your comments. Freni also had squillo which is partly why her voice kept a youthful quality.
