I'd had this bottle sitting at my aparment for about 9 months, but I was not too worried about it, since it's bottle-conditioned. Affligem Dubbel is a milder example of the abbey-style dubbel ale, with a nice fruit and caramel flavour and some apparent spicy notes.
Grading Scale for Season 6 [Overall Grade]:
1: UNDRINKABLE (this is a theoretical grade that is unlikely to ever be given out)
2: HORRIBLE beer. Should be avoided at all costs. Poorly brewed, a hassle to drink, and extremely enjoyable.
3: BLAND, weak flavours; a beer that probably does not deserve to be classified as the style it claims to be.
4: BELOW AVERAGE; some flavours; drinkable, but not very enjoyable. Might be too light-bodied and watery (unless it is an attribute of the style). Should not be picked when better alternatives are available.
5: SLIGHTLY BELOW AVERAGE. Not bad, but not very impressive either. Will generally have some major turn-off. There are better alternatives out there.
6: AVERAGE, decent beer. Can give an inexperienced drinker an idea of what this style of beer is about. Could be a decent "gateway" beer.
7: ABOVE AVERAGE, pretty good beer; lacks a few aspects still. Might be very good in some aspects, but unbalanced or lacking on other. Recommended.
8: VERY GOOD beer; solid performer for its style; a "go-to" beer. Nothing too special about it, though. Recommended!
9: EXCELLENT, better than many other beers in its style; only a small step from being perfect. Highly Recommended!
10: Amazing, Brilliant, OUTSTANDING! A perfect example of the style! Could also be my favourite beer from its style. Must try, if possible!
Stick to Good Beer!
Another good review Denis. I do like doubles but not my fav style just like you said.
