This short video consists of images taken during Kayla Rocca's visit to Uganda, Africa in March and April 2010. She describes her visit as follows:

"During these weeks I was integrated into a world that is far different than the one we know. I lived in a beautiful village set amongst the vast and lush hills of South-Western Uganda called Ruhanga. It was there that I immersed myself in a culture and went on a on a journey that allowed me to experience the hopes, fears, challenges and victories the Ruhanga people face.

"The second week of my journey was spent doing research for a community based organization called Uganda Lodge. I went up the hills of the village and visited disadvantaged families and orphaned children in hopes of enrolling them into a sponsorship program. I started the journey at the bottom of the thick hills and trekked all the way to the top going to each and every house.

"I photographed children, interviewed parents/guardians and gathered detailed information about each family unit. I came across many families who only had one parent/guardian as, in most cases, the other one had their life taken by HIV. I learned that many single parents are left alone to tend to 4-7 children, as well as cook, clean, dig (farm), and attempt earn an income.

"Many families in the Ruhanga village cannot afford to send their children to school because they dont have opportunities to make an income, or they are stricken by fatal illness. I came across several children who were suffering from malaria and polio. I saw children fetching and drinking water from unsanitary streams, and visited with many parents/guardians living with HIV.

"More specifically, this video consists of the men, woman, and children who were interviewed. Through research and photographs, Uganda Lodge created sponsorship profiles of the children and so far have been able to send several of the village children to school through their sponsorship.

"I hope that these images will act as a catalyst for awareness showing you a world that is far different from the one we know."
