Mario Lanza/Frances Yeend LIVE from Hollywood Bowl, part 5

On August 28, 1947, at 26 yrs. old, Mario Lanza gave an operatic recital at the Hollywood Bowl in California. Here he is accompanied by the highly regarded lyric soprano, Frances Yeend in his second of three duets of the evening- "Vogliatemi bene" from Puccini's 'Madama Butterfly.' Lanza hits a scorching high C at the end (live, mind you) that is as good as any he produced in the studio. Enjoy!

Remarkably, Frances Yeend passed away on April 27, 2008 at the age of 95!

I just love the way Lanza holds that end note, apparently Yeend ran out of breath!

Also how he gives the 'n' at the end of the word 'vien' often omitted by some singers unable to get it in there...
