Most (all?) other savannah mammals are furry, so theories like that seem insufficient to me. I've also heard parasite resistance, but social grooming is prevalent in our cousins so that seems incorrect too. I'm personally leaning towards the aquatic ape theories, and a diet heavy in fish would promote brain development.

Fur =/= hair although I found your answer amusing. :)

Hair may not be exactly fur, but they came from the same place and served the same function. Besides, this wasn't a serious question...or answer.

I didn't mean to offend. Hair and fur are pretty close to the same thing. Man developed less need for fur as he moved out of the trees and ponto the savannah. Itzippy2 had a pretty good answer for that. As far as wearing clothes is concerned, though, no matter how warm it is, I still have to cover this ugly bod of mine!
