KITTUR UTSAV - KANNADA FLAGS BURNT

TV9 News: Kittur Utsav - Kannada Flags Burnt - BELGAUM: Kittur Utsav-2010, scheduled for October 23-25, is expected to get state-wide attention. The utsav had been a low-key affair last year, as north Karnataka reeled under devastating floods.

In a first, the Vijaya Jyoti (victory torch) of Rani Chennamma was taken to places across the state this year. The initiative has gained good response from the people in all those places. It created awareness among the people on the utsav.

The participation of persons of great repute like Infosys chairperson Sudha Murty, Bollywood actress Jayaprada, Kannada actresses Jayanti and Anu Prabhakar and music director Hamsalekha has made people to wait for the gala event. Many ministers are also expected at the utsav.

As many as 1,700 artistes from across the state will perform at the three-day event. For their accommodation, arrangements are being made at lodges in Belgaum and Dharwad, Morarji Desai Residential School, BCM and SC/ ST hostels and Kittur Rani Chennamma Sainik Residential School (Kittur). Food will be made available at Nicchanagi Mutt.

Veeranatyam and Bhangra dance performances by troupes from Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Panjab, Panti dance by Chhattisgarh troupe are the highlights of cultural performances.

For sports lovers, competitions in cycling, wrestling, kabaddi and half-marathon will be conducted. Putting up of infrastructure __ like installing pandal, decoration, setting the stage __ is in final stage. A massive rain-proof pandal, for 10,000-strong audience, is being readied for the main event.
