@6891man Type in "Burning Lawrence Kansas" into google. It will bring up a nice short little wikipedia page on the cause of Quantrill's raid. It's short enough so you won't get confused about the jayhawkers continued aggression in Missouri before Quantrill's raid.
@procircuit844 Whatever attacks the Jayhawkers made against Missourians were in RETALIATION for the Bushwhackers' attacks on Kansans. Your version of history is skewed.
@6891man Furthermore, I agree that the Bushwacker's actions were almost as heinous as those of the Jayhawkers, even though they were very much provoked before they committed them. However, while kU chooses to endorse the terrorist jayhawker faction, and even the red-leg group known as being the most brutal and lawless of any of the jayhawkers, Missouri chose to endorse the Tigers, a militia formed for the sole purpose of protecting Columbia from the jayhawkers, and which never saw battle.
@6891man Again, your skewed vision of reality is about par for the course for someone with a kU education or even someone who sat through high school history classes in kansas. Yes, some Missourians attempted to illegally vote in elections in kansas. However, Missourians did not turn violent until they fell victim to the terrorists from kansas. Again, the jayhawkers were murderous outlaws who killed under the false pretense of abolition, whose victims were largely non-slaveowners.
@mizzou8944 The Missourians tried to force slavery upon the Kansas Territory. They voted illegally in our elections, and when we dared stand up like men they burned our towns, raped our women and spilled our blood! Even after Kansas joined the Union as a Free State, the Missourians continued to terrorize us, when Quantrill sacked Lawrence. I think it's pretty obvious who the terrorists were in the Bloody Kansas era.
@6891man Ah, if your version of purity and virtue is endorsing terrorists who murdured and raped innocent civilians (only about 10% of the jayhawkers victims were actually slave-owners), then I guess you are correct. It is amazing how terribly you have the facts of the conflict skewed. Also, didn't the good guy usually win in the old westerns? I don't remember them getting bitch-slapped the entire movie then laying down and taking a spanking in the end.
The only good thing about this game was the uniforms. Kansas in white, Missouri in black. Just like in the old westerns; the good guys wore white, the bad guys wore black. But on this day, we had to learn that sometimes evil takes the upper hand.
Kansas symbolizes purity and virtue; Missouri symbolizes villainy and corruption. Evil may have had the upper hand on this day, but good will ultimately prevail. Kansas will defeat Missouri in 2011.
