I would like to introduce you to the DRESDNER KAPELLKNABEN with this Video. Dresden is a very special city for Boy Choirs. I dont know another city which has so many good Boy Choirs per inhabitants like Dresden (3 per half a million people). There is the would-famous Dresdner Kreuzchor, which is related to the Protestant Church and more than 700 years old, the also quite good and professional Dresdner Kapellknaben, which are related to the Catholic Church and the Staatskapelle the Orchestra of the Semper Opera, the choir is celebrating 450 years in 2009 and the Dresdner Knabenchor, which is related to the Conservatory and was founded in 1971.

The DRESDNER KAPELLKNABEN were founded in 1548. From 1615 until 1672 the choir got a high standard under Heinrich Schütz. The St.Benno Gymnasium was founded as a Latin School for the Choir Boys. Even today most of the Boys are visiting this school. Later composers like Carl Maria von Weber and Richard Wagner worked with the choir. Today the choir has about 90 singers. The Boys are mostly from Dresden and the surrounding but also from other catholic regions in East Germany. Like the Dresdner Kreuzchor, a part of the Boys is living in a boarding school, the choir is rehearsing almost every day, everyone has singing lessons and is playing an instrument and Boy Soloist are singing at the Semper Opera (for example in the Magic Flute). The main issue is still singing services at the cathedral of Dresden. The choir is touring regularly in Germany and Europe but have also been for example to the US and Cuba.
