May 2004 - my horse had just recovered from an abcess and was jumping again for the first time in several months. He was jumping fine so we tried a 2'6 solid coop. Somehow or another he got tripped up (I think he stepped on the back of his bell boot with his back foot) and flipped. It looks worse than it was--we were both okay.

For more recent videos of him, see "Schooling Over an Oxer - 3/26/08" and "Vally - 3/26/08 (Jumping and Flat)."

  • I'm glad that you both are okay, wow. That must have been scary! I would have beenn so worried about my horse I couldn't see straight!

  • Thanks. It's scarier to watch it now (and know what could have happened) than it was when it happened, because it happened so fast. My horse was getting up as I was, so there wasn't any question of whether he had broken a leg or his neck. I did worry about injuries, but we jogged him out fine and then popped over a few little fences and he was fine...he never did like that jump after that, though! You can hear my mother screaming :).

  • I bet! I'm gonna get my horse to go over little jumps this summer. I hope he doesn't fall! I could care less if I fall, but I don't want him to get hurt.

  • The jump he fell over was solid, so it didn't fall with him. I did have a rail over it, but he hit the solid part. If you use jumps that fall (regular rails) you'll be fine! Even solid jumps are usually fine if your horse is experienced and set up properly. I think what happened is that he was wearing bell boots and he stepped on the back of his front boot with his back foot, so when he went to take off, his front foot didn't lift. We haven't used bell boots since then!

  • r u ok? tht would have scared me and ur pony is adorable!

  • Yes, we were both fine! It scared me too :). Thanks!

  • OOUUCCH!

  • it's dangerous falling off a horse, but it's worse when both you AND the horse fall at the same time, this happens a lot with me...glad you're safe

  • Yeah, the ones I'll use will fall if he hits them. =] I really don't want him to get hurt.

  • OH MY GOD!!! That looked so scary! I'm glad you were okay!!!!! OH MY GOD!!!!
