  • wtf is an Apple ii/e??

  • @broccoliaka3

ii/e, IIe, same thing. You can look it up. It's the model Apple came out with after the Apple II Plus and the Apple III (this one was a flop). There were a few more in this line: the Apple IIc (for "compact", it was a portable), the Apple IIc Plus, and the Apple IIGS.

  • Why does the moon look like the Death Star?

  • @siemenstraffic

Hmm. I don't know. You have to look at it pretty closely to think it looks like the Death Star, but yeah, I can see what you're saing. In all the time I played the game I never thought it looked like that. It was just a blob with some texture to me. Why Gorlin didn't bother to make it look more like the Moon, I don't know.

  • @mmille10 It's because the graphics system is archaic, and the game I was thinking you might like earlier is Sir-Tech's Rescue Raiders, another battle themed game of the early 80s. The idea with the moon was to reproduce craters, but having holes and color onscreen as well, there's some flare ups and blooming in the NTSC video system

    Re. graphics system was archaic

I know a little about this. I remember when I used to draw stuff on the Koala Pad (in one of the high resolution modes) that certain colors REALLY didn't mix well! Something like if you put white next to blue you'd get this AWFUL orange bleed-over that was real obvious. Someone explained to me once why this happened, but I can't remember it anymore. With NTSC there was dithering as well, which made for some interesting effects.

  • This was probably my favorite game when I was little, but those planes always pissed me off and were hard to shoot down

  • @steve062580 hahahaha, word!

  • Thanks for posting this! I remember playing this on my dad's Apple II/e but it was all orange because that's the monitor we had.

I thought the Choplifter HD remake game was pretty decent but I had to see this again to really see what a great job they did with it!

  • I vaguely remember when these graphics were state of the art. That being said, I laughed at the sound effects and choppy game play. I thought the first sounds in the video were recording glitches. Only after watching for several seconds did I realize that sound effects in the Apple II era sound suspiciously like modern sound artifacts.

  • YES!!! Choplifter! Brings me back to the earliest days of childhood. What a trip. Thanks for posting!

  • This was the first computer game I played, in 1984!

  • What a great game..glad they brought it back for the 360

  • @benjie414 LOL! Border patrol has tanks now.

  • I used to play the c=64 version. This is the first time I seen this version of the game. Why is the deathstar on it? LOL jk!!
