the village of blasdell, ny was founded in 1896 and it grew around the erie and south buffalo railroads. known locally as the "gateway to the southtowns", this small village of ca. 2,700 residents has revolved around the railroads ever since its founding. however, as railroad transport declined and neighboring industries such as bethlehem steel left the area, the huge decrease in the significance of the railroads through blasdell have left this small village without much of an identity anymore. we now explore this village and its railroad connections, even if such connections no longer exist...

music: shostakovich 10th symphony, mvmt. II

  • Who's line was that at 3:42? I am from Ohio and reside in Alabama. There is something about the small towns up north. Those houses, the older parts of town, there is no place in the US like them.

  • Aww i grew up on lake ave across from the clifton post. The tracks are still used quite often thou as im on electric now i hear them constantly and am always going around. I still liked your video, esp cause i too use to party down the tracks over the martin bridge lol. Im sure kids still do :)

  • Wow, what memories this brings back. Last time I was there was in 59. I remember as a kid running up the street to play on the railroad ties. Loved every second of it. Sad to see it so deserted and the lack of work. It was a big boom back after the 2nd WW. The old timers are practically gone now.

  • How exciting can it get ?!!! Love the music---I grew up in Blasdell on South Park Ave. --now I live in California. Thanks a lot for the video---my dad worked for the South Buffalo Railway and I'm sure he would have liked this.

  • We used to party under the tracks in that little cave on martin ave.

  • I went to grade school across the street from that church.WOW!

  • These tracks were basically in my backyard.

  • actually with those weed covered tracks you showed, you'd be suprised that alot of the tracks like that in and around buffalo still see trains on occasion not often like CSX or NS or even the B&P do, but yea they're still used. great video still.

  • dude, i love all these videos about buffalo. do you live in buffalo? i do. keep up the good work!
