Though the chilies from Mexico are good, I would like to get seeds from the New Mexico "Hatch" strain and grow some of my own. Here we have green chilies from Mexico laid on a bed of dough with spinach on top, then a mix of refried beans, corn, black olives that have been seasoned with dried red chili pods, minced garlic, and oregano.

I made 15 HUGE tamales!

  • Oh man YUM! I love those things. Where do you get the dough?

  • @mobiltec I bought the masa flour at Stater Brothers and used vegetable shortening, baking powder, and water for the dough. :)

  • I want to get a box of instant rice before I make the shredded chicken tamales.

  • @AllSmallEngines That would be good, maybe I'll remember to get some. :)

  • Looks tasty ..my neighbors across the street make them on Christmas too and bring some over. Im still waiting for them...lol

  • @davidsquall351 LOL! Go over there, David, and ask them what's taking so long. :) What do they put in theirs? Some meat, I would assume, and maybe sharp cheddar cheese?

  • You can reuse them, but it's a pain.

  • Looks and sounds awesome. At Jasper Ranch, Walter and Doug feed us with tamales. If I recall correctly I ate six vege tamales last August. Green chili, summer squash, and Moteray Jack cheese.

  • I have reused the husks. I rinsed them then dried them but then I doubled up on them when I made the next batch of tamales. I did this when I ran out of husks one day. Probably would only work if you used them right away as I did.

  • Sounds yummy : )

  • I just finished off the last of my Costa Rican Christmas Tamales. My sister in law is from Costa Rica and they make a batch every year. Theirs are wrapped in banana leaves. Hers are vegetarian too.

  • oh, I could take a hit of that!

  • Yum! A little shredded beef would be a nice finishing touch. LOL

Somehow I don't see those corn husks as being dishwasher safe I think once might be their limit....

  • yuuuuummmmmmmmm

  • @NotSoOldHippy Tanks man...
