The Kinderszenen, or Scenes from Childhood are a set of thirteen reminiscences of childhood, written during a temporary separation from Clara. As piano miniatures, they are wistful, charming and yet substantial. They include the very famous Reverie which is featured in this video.
They are works about children, rather than music written for children, and require a high degree of polish to perform them. The quintessential Romantic composer, Schumann wrote more than 150 works of exceptional variety, and the radiance of his musical voice continues to enchant audiences worldwide.
The first section of Träumerei is made from two four measure phrases. The second phrase is a variation of the first and they both end with a half cadence. Schumann uses a ninth (D) on the third beat of the third measure over the dominant chord:The composer uses modal transformation of the second beat of measure 7:
The second section is also made of two phrases and is a variation of the first. The composer repeats the first phrase with some variations. This is my take on it, enjoy.
