@chuckc7210 They usually did a half hour of trio playing before they went into the full band stuff.
I wish people idolized THIS side of Buddy a little more. Check out how beautiful his hands are, listen to the way he comps, listen to his dynamics and where he chooses to put accents based on the spontaneity of what the others are playing.

Excellent! Interesting that Rich chose a trio format when he had all those horns available. I also like the up tempo choice. Not so sure about the electric bass though. Nice version of one of the classic songs but not better than the Miles/Evans version for me. Thanks.

@cornflakeassassin Yeah they were in the zone. This is my favorite rendition of All Blues -- it's just perfect.

@Antiks72 His face looks like that the whole way through tbh :D

@zildj1an A few rock drummers have done it in the past. Mitch Mitchell does some nice brushwork in Up From The Skies, for example (well, it's really just stick playing, but it's alright). But it's not really a rock thing. One of my favorite brush performances is Max Roach doing Nommo. It is a real art to play with brushes. I myself never did it enough to get really good at it. Mybe one day I'll get my wife to hide my sticks so all I got is brushes.

@tornmask Dave Carpenter most certainly was a great player. Allas he died june 24 2008 of a heart attack.
7:23 - Buddy's face has, "Yeah we kicked ass!" all over it.

Wow! That was great! One doesn't often hear Buddy playing with brushes. As a former drummer, I can honestly say that brush playing is more difficult than stick playing. Brushes just don't "bounce" off the drums and cymbals the way sticks do. It's all in the wrists. Brushes are also so much more subtle than sticks. I wish a lot more rock drummers would realize that playing softly can be just as cool as beating the crap out of the drums.
