Middleweight champion Sergio 'Maravilla' Martinez (47-2-2, 26 KOs) of Oxnard, CA, by way of Quilmes, Argentina impressively defeated then undefeated world champion Sergei Dzinziruk (37-1, 23 KOs) of Ukraine less than a month ago on HBO's 'World Championship Boxing' at the MGM Grand Arena at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut via eight round knockout to claim the WBC Diamond middleweight title.

For his fight against Sergei Dzinziruk, Martinez, under the watchful eye of 2010's 'Trainer of the Year' Gabriel Sarmiento, enlisted the help of southpaw's, WBA junior middleweight champion Austin 'No Doubt' Trout (22-0, 13 KOs) of Las Cruces, New Mexico, former two-division world champion Daniel 'El Pillin' Santos (32-4-1, 23 KOs) of Puerto Rico, who lost a close decision to Dzinziruk back in 2005, as well as world ranked junior welterweight contender Victor 'Mermelada' Cayo (26-1, 18KOs) of the Dominican Republic.

Prior to his fight with Sergei Dzinziruk, Sergio Martinez knocked out former two-time world champion Paul 'The Punisher' Williams (39-2, 27 KOs) with a devastating left hook in the second round in the highly anticipated rematch this past November at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ earning him 'Knock Out of the Year' and 'Fighter of the Year'.

Sergio Martinez is will be departing from Oxnard, California later this week and will arrive at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada to take part in the broadcast team of HBO Latino's pay-per-view fight between Erik Morales and Marcos Maidana that takes place this Saturday April 9th.

Fightnews caught up with Sergio Martinez at the World Crown Sports Training Center in Port Hueneme, CA to talk to him about his last fight, the upcoming fight between fellow countryman Marcos Maidana and Mexico's Erik Morales, his future plans and a lot more, here's what he had to say:

  • em mejor de todos

  • quien coño traduce??? menudo retrasado profundo...

  • ... Mon(k)ey Mayweather, Chimp life.

  • I want Sergio Martinez to box Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto, & avenge his lost to Margarito & I would pay to watch Martinez to whoop Chavez Jr. Since Chavez Jr fights at 154 and I would pay for him to fight Canelo Alvarez which also fights at 154.

& if Manny pacquiao is so called pound for pound let that son of a gun come up to 154!!! and make 154 no catch weight!

  • tendría que ser toda en castellano la nota!!! aguante maravilla el mejor del mundo y el mas profesional

  • nobody beats martinez i dont care who you say pirog bute none are on martinez's level get over it

  • Vamos Argentina! Argentino reppin Oxnard!

  • Go after Pacquiao.

  • @jcsgasco

IMO I think Sergio M. will beat Antonio M.

I doubt they'll take that fight. Mostly like Antonio will fight Cotto.

I can't wait for Sergio's next fight though.

  • I'm distracted by the photos on the wall in the background. LOL
