@HansRulezGl This is my theory... i think the poem was originally just a childs story type thing, but in the context of the manga Elfen Lied, Lucy/Nyu is like the fairy, trying in vain to lead a happy life with people, eg the ballroom and stuff, but in the end it is an impossible endeavor for her, as she was born to end humanity and try as she might, she can not repress her instincts or live a normal life because of her past and who she is, and is hurt when she tries, eg hitting the rock

@hacksign20 wrong, in the manga, Lucy was how to sing by Nozomi-chan and she taught Lucy how to sing Elfen Lied which is also the title of the manga and the anime. You can see it in the manga that she said exactly the text from above the video. Chapter 5 page 155 and near the end when of the manga when Lucy tries to save Kohta from a bullet wound. She sang this song as her body melt from the overuse of her powers. That would be in Vlume 12 page 100-105. Wow and this was one year too late. =)

@HansRulezGl The connection is a bit strange, but there is one. It makes a bit more sense if you read about it. I'll send you a link

-
If i might say... I'm unable to see the connection between the anime and the poem. I even don't understand the poem.

where did you get the instrumental background?

@hacksign20 it is in the manga in one of the last chapters Lucy sings this you don't happen to know the the name of the song version do you?
emmm i spent about 8 min trying to figure out what u meant by; "the elfenlied poem from the manga."
literally that sentence made no sense to me.
Elfen lied is the manga.
elfenlied is a german poem, its not from the manga. and the manga got no relation with the context of the poem either, just the title has resemblance.
if u got your source from wiki it should also stated that the author was rather inspired by the poem, so he made it the title.
so change that description of yours

I changed the description to -the elfenlied poem in the elfen lied manga-.(My bad)
And I think it is in the manga.
Maybe youre thinking about the anime.
