The CD is not available on the market so I thought to upload it and give people a chance to listen it. If there are some copyright problems, I'll not hesitate to remove the videos.

Theoretical, Acis should be interpreted by a countertenor but it is very nice with mezzo soprano. :)

"De Literes' Acis is a characterful alternative to the French, Italian and English versions with a vivid portrayal of the grotesquely libidinous Polyphemus. The group's exuberance sometimes strays into rhythmic chaos but the delicious laments of lead sopranos Lola Casariego and Marta Almajano offset the castanet-heavy dances perfectly." - The Independent (London), Mar 25, 2001 by Anna Picard

  • holy shit. im doing some reading before i open up ovids work and also going through a classical music kick...it is amazing how many works made so long ago can just pop up at you and be completely relevant. if only ovid or handel could have known how their works would be observed in 21st century on internet site youtube. thank you for the upload! the first 20 seconds were a revelation!

  • @trench : this is a baroque zarzuela by Antonio de Literes, written indeed in the same year, 1708, with Handel's dramatic cantata "Aci, Galatea e Polifemo". Handel's pastoral opera in English "Acis and Galatea" was born later and evolved during many years.
