Interesting to find the origin of what are now considered campfire "ghost stories" have traceable religious references.

@DelBluenose80 you've got to be kidding me? you must be trolling. the contractions of birth/ the actual delivery can be excuriating. some woman have easier labours than others. some women endure labour for days.

@fleurgi Nonsense!! I watched a nature programme where a wildebeest gave birth to its calf. This thing came through the birth canal with hoofs and horns and there was nought but a slight moo from the mother as the calf hit the ground. All this screaming from women as a nice smooth little baby comes out is nothing but attention seeking.

just imagine what child birth was like as well. i mean us woman go through enough pain today, but just imagine in that time what that experience would be like
Poor people they died of everything!
Thanks god and scientists we have medicine and good doctors today.

@LindaOftheRose1 They were saying the same thing. 500 years from now, people might be watching videos of historians describing how we have a high death rate of cancer, decapitation or mutilation; and they'll think how stupid our doctors are today. In the medieval period you can see surgeries where dogs and animals roamed about; we look at that as a violation of sanitation. But 500 years from now, things we think are safe today... might be known to be fatal in the future.
