http://www.areyouexperienced.net/RobinTrower-JimiHendrix-clips.html#03061rehe... Here is Part 1 of a 2 part clip I put together showing how to sound like Jimi Hendrix & Robin Trower using similar effects pedals guitar and Marshall amplifiers and speakers to what they both use(d) to get their incredible tones. Obviously, without the amp really cranked and pushing a lot of air out the speakers, it's impossible to get a more accurate tone than you hear here, but it's close enough to get the idea what you can do. This is not a clip to demo my playing skills as much as it is to share what you can do with these effects. I've done a lot of research, spent thousands on pedals over many years and these are the best as far as I'm concerned and are in fact the ones Robin uses today.

I also think Jimi would have approved though I will soon have a clone of Jimi's 1966 Marshall JTM45/100 amp using http://marstran.com original style paper bobbin transformers & http://wallaceamps.com (makes the closest thing to the real deal when it comes to transformers and building vintage clone amps and I've studied all of them in-depth for years) as well as getting a set of pre-rola speakers from that era to get even closer to that tone that I love so much.

Effects Chain includes in this order: Fulltone Deja 2 -Eventide ModFactor - Boss CE-2 MIJ - Electro Harmonix Electric Mistress Flanger - Custom Shin-ei Uni-Vibe clone - Fulltone '69 Germanium Fuzz - Fulltone Soul Bender Fuzz (Colorsound and Vox Series III ToneBender clone) - Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Octavio (octave up-fuzz pedal a'la Who Knows-Purple Haze) - 1998 Fulldrive II 2 (vintage hand wired version - non mosfet preferred by Trower) - Fulltone Robin Trower Overdrive RTO - Early Fulltone Fat Boost #116 - Fulltone OCD - Boss TU-2 tuner - MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay - Behringer DR600 Digital Reverb

Amplifier Used: Marshall 2466 Vintage Modern Head with KT66 Power Tubes as used by Jimi circa 1966-1970 in the studio. Amp was set on Low Dynamic Range (LDR mode) for the Vintage sound on all parts of both Part I & II due to close proximity I was standing to the amp and it would have cause too much gain and oscillation-squeal. The amp was set at 8 on the master volume through a Marshall PB100 Power Brake to keep the overall volume down.

Speakers Used: Marshall style 2x12 Open Back loaded with Marshall/Celestion G12 Vintage 30 speakers rated at 70 watts each

Pedal Pad MPS-XL Pedal Board with Power Pad 2 - Switching Power Supply htp://pedalpad.com & http://pedal-board.com/cart

  • i agree on some of the fuzzes you're using, but a behringer reverb? also, have you considered the roger mayer octavia instead of a sort-of-replica jimi hendrix used? overall, nice job!!

  • @thomasjeeh Thanks but I really don't use reverb. It's actually a great sounding reverb though with stereo 24 bit sound with very convincing plate and spring reverbs. I normally use delay instead. Not a fan of any of RMs stuff since nothing he makes is what or how he made Jimi's sound. He always uses the forward thinking reason in his marketing though I have yet to hear anything he's made since Jimi that sounds as good advanced or not. Thanks much though!

  • I love these posts that say.."if you want to sound like Hendrix, put your OD on 4 and turn down the mid..." and whatever...it's ridiculous. There are so many variables...he dialed in his tone every night, I'm sure. I know my amps basically behave differently in every room, and even every practice, in the same room...something seems different, and I adjust accordingly. I'm probably the biggest variable, and Jimi tripping balls probably did the same.

  • @dannon2010 haha tripping balls! You got that right though. Jimi was known to be able to dial in the tone he wanted in nano seconds, whether it was Little Wing clean or nasty Purple Haze, he could dial it right in most of the time live or in the studio. I do the same as well with a basic formula. A. Turn amp volume to between 8-10 B. Adjust volume and gain with guitar. C. Adjust all overdrive pedals to EQ out with that same level. D. Let er rip!

  • which pedal is that red one you have there? i cant make out the lettering on it. Thanks

  • @texanol75 That's the Fulltone '69 Fuzz Pedal which was discontinued a few years ago. However, they are now shipping the new Fulltone '69 MKII fuzz which supposedly uses the same germanium transistors in a smaller OCD sized pedal. Check it out on their site. Best sounding fuzz I've ever owned and there have been many.

  • @thebluesmonkeygrass yes its a great little pedal!

  • @yes9310 Have you used and do you recommend the moen Jimi zero univbe clone

  • Very informative indeed. Sad we can't hear what you're saying' though! You need to mike yourself or get closer to the recording device. Cheers!

  • @stratcat70 Thanks bro. Much appreciated. My setup here is to show how to get both studio and live rig setups in a live situation.

  • @stratcat70 Ah thanks bro. What some of these guys aren't understanding is Jimi used 1-4 pedals when he played live yes! However, he used other effects such as a Leslie, Delay, Plate Reverbs, Booster pedals and buffers in the studio and built into some of those live effects. All of his fuzz and wah and Uni-vibe pedals were heavily tweaked and boosted by Roger Mayer. That warble is the Uni-Vibe or Deja 2. Thanks bro.

  • yohh brother what pedal is gettin you the time worrble? .. u know the flexi tone please reply?

  • too all ney sayers ...your fucking tone def, ...this man nails jimi,s tone ... iknow im jimi,s greatest fan fucking . period
