Does anyone know what they plan to do with Hialeah? (sp) Are they still using it to race Quarter Horses?

I completely agree with him!! I've grown up on the race track but I ride Hunter/jumpers & ive noticed the difference in the Show industry but now its moving into the race industry. But our breeding program is going to change drastically to fit the synthetic style.. but its the better for the future of racing.. numbers dont lie & thats what's telling us whats better for the horses!

ps Great shots of Misremembered :)

....Tooooo bad all the poeple in racing don't feel strongly like he does, the horses would be better kept. But I llke the dirt also

This was a good video Larry and well put together. I would think that if you had horses that you were responsible for, the well being and safety of, it would be a weight on your shoulders, so Mr. Casner has the weight of this whole track on his shoulders and all the horses that run it. That is a tall order and he will do what he thinks is best for his horses, right wrong or indifferent, he will do what HE thinks is best AND SAFEST

I agree the Horse's welfare should be the main point of racing. It is all about the breed-- not the betting. Betting is the side show. Disagree or not, but that is the sort of thinking you need to have in the 21century. High profile deaths and injuries (Eight-Belles, Barbaro) only lead to the loss of fans and eventual death of racing. Racing never bounced back from the gruesome death of Ruffian. Another televised horse death of that sort will be another nail in the coffin. Make tracks safe!

There is a 31 page report on the Bloodhorse all about synthetic surfaces. You will see a whole lot of comments from extremely experienced horsemen and vets who don't think synthetics are any great leap from dirt, and many who feel they are worse. Nick Ziro, Frank Stronach, John Shirreffs, Dale Romans, Reade Baker, and others have serious reservations regarding synthetic surfaces.
None of my comments were intended to be inflammatory. The surface question is an interesting debate.
Nextdoorneighbor looked exceptional. Really striding out under wraps.
I disagree with Bill Casner though...

I don't really care for opinions. Numbers mean a lot more to me than opinion.
Synthetic surfaces have temporarily reduced fatalities according to some of the tracks, but the numbers are extremely small still, and far from conclusive.
Also, keep in mind that if all of these tracks had installed 10 million dollar dirt tracks that were brand new, that would have reduced those numbers as well probably.
