The first concept plays on the fact that HBO is influential and powerful. Every move it makes has a sort of rippling effect in the industry and an impact with the audiences.
So like a magnet made of solid material and sometimes, rare earth metal, HBO is strong and stable. And like a magnet, HBO has a force field of its own; the ability to affect objects in its vicinity.
The audiences that are attracted to the channel are not unlike iron fillings that surround a magnet. They come together and are moved by the shows or stories that HBO has to offer, much as how the iron fillings will be oriented in the magnetic field of a magnet.
The concept allows an interesting visual display because of the movements of the iron fillings when they are affected. The logo will appear after an explosion of iron fillings.
