Richard Brautigan Tacomas only and most important poet.
and one of my personal hero's i know his works by heart.
here he Reads"The hunchback trout" from trout fishing in America.
And the chapter" the watermelon sun " from watermelon sugar
he was born in Tacoma and raised in extreme poverty in the 30s and 40s we bot had a similar childhood no dad no money living on welfare. he was very popular in the 60s and early to mid 70s by the 80s he was pretty much ignored.
he died in the mid 80s due to a self inflicted gunshot wound.
anyway no one in Tacoma knows or even bothers to read Brautigan these days hes pretty much forgotten in Tacoma except for me ....here is to you from one poor Tacoma boy to another and to all children who grew up in poverty
I seem to be coming across one ex Tacoma resident after another. I live nearby. It is always more interesting to me to go to a place where some famous artist has lived and see the sights he/she (Nico Case grew up in t-town also) has seen and smell the air and hear the sounds of a place. I can't fish but listening to Richard and reading James Carver makes me wish I could. Seems like, then everything would be alright.

Every natural thing has a metaphorical counterpart in the world of men. Beautifully disconcerting!
