100% 6-star Expert Vocals performance on Song 2 by Blur, as it appears in Guitar Hero 5 for PlayStation 3.

I've left the audio track alone in this one (unlike most of my videos) because I forgot to turn down the original vocals when recording.

---

So I just picked up Guitar Hero 5 this afternoon because I got a little tired of being called a Rock Band fanboy. And to be fair, I wanted to give the new game a shot and see how things have come along since GH:WT / Metallica / Smash Hits.

The new vocals engine in GH5 is... strange. It's much more forgiving than Guitar Hero World Tour or Guitar Hero Metallica, and you now have a progress bar to show you how well you're doing on each phrase. These are good things.

The bad things are that the pitch detection on Expert is extremely tight and all-or-nothing. If you're within about 1 semitone (1/2 note), the progress bar moves. If you're even slightly more than that... no movement at all. No partial credit.

Talkies are gimmie-points, but unlike Rock Band, you can NOT whisper them and still score them - there must be some sort of pitch behind your voice.

Overall, I dislike the vocals in GH5 less than previous incarnations, but it still leaves much to be desired as far as matching good scores to decent singing.

I don't know how many GH5 videos I'll be doing - if any. It's simply not very fun to play on vocals for me, though your mileage may vary.

  • Question; if I can do pretty well on RB2 Hard Vocals (mostly 4/5*'s and a few FC's,) will I be able to do Hard Vocals on GH5? Because I can't do anything above Medium on GH:WT/SH/M's broken (IMO) vocals engine.

  • I haven't played much on Hard, but my impression of it was that it was about as hard as Expert vocals on Rock Band 2 at least pitch-wise. It's a different feel all together, though, because of the all-or-nothing type scoring. RB2 gives you partial credit for being "close". GH5 does not, so your mileage may vary.

  • In retrospect, your voice is ridiculously similar to Damon Albarns. Awesome job though. Is GH5 worth getting for vocals? I'm not sure about whether I'd get my moneys worth of fun. I mean, there's plenty of RB DLC I could get with the money, but a new game might sharpen my vocals a bit. Sorry for the goddamn essay xD

  • If you're a pure vocalist (like me) I'd just stick with Rock Band 2. Getting FCs in GH5 feels terribly unnatural, you can't deviate much at all and you can't really use any vocal tricks or you'll break combo.

  • WOO HOO!

  • Seriously, you missed the point by a long shot. A video of a Guitar Hero gameplay on Vocals instrument is absolutely pointless you can't hear the player's voice instead of the original singer's.

If you want to hear the song, look up for the actual video of the song, or download and listen to the original song on your player.

  • @30secondstolive but then songs sang by men, girls wouldn't be able to sing. Maybe they can do a fixed octave when they select which octave they want to use.

  • they should make the game so that it recognizes the right octave...

  • Sounds Bad XD
