The Tesla uses AA size cells, a lot of them, and yes, early Li-on cells can overheat when being charged, and catch fire. But newer li-on batteries made especially for cars are much bigger, and replace the graphite with a safer material so much safer.

The batteries are the driving cost factor in every (strictly) electric car. The electric vs. gas propulsion component costs are about a wash.

only $25000 more?! the car costs $25000 to start.. thats double the cost!
but electric isa very cool idea, especially in a city :o)
I read an article about a hybrid mini that gets 80 miles to the gallon and has a 400 Mile reach on one tank!
