Safe route to school. Assen, Netherlands

A new Dutch housing estate outside Assen. This shows part of the route to some schools which are clustered together.

The wide and smooth cycle path has priority over side roads and as you can see by watching the video, cars do give way to bikes.

Once children arrive at school there is ample easily accessible cycle parking, including some underneath one of the schools.

It is quite normal for Dutch schools to be open like this and not have gates or fences.

The video was taken on wet Sunday morning. Sorry about the blurring. The jumps are caused because my camera can take just 1 minute of video at a time.
