July 22, 2008: First Delta Dan falls, around 8 PM. The fall is seen by people watching the live video, and they contact David Hancock and O.W.L. They search but cannot find the eaglet. The next morning, they resume their search.

They find Danny, sitting on a fence post in a field to the west of the nest.

According to one observer at the nest site: "When I left the nest site to go over to O.W.L., the parent eagles were perched together on one of their favorite power poles to the east of the nest."

Dan was not returned to the nest. To do so could have scared the other eaglet into jumping from the nest. Danny will be cared for at O.W.L. for a couple of weeks before being released in his nest area. He will be banded before he is set free.

July 28, 2008: Dawn slips from the nest when a parent lands, but manages to climb back in, after leaping from branch to branch.

The nest has been deteriorating, and the parents have made no attempts to restore it.

  • jagscalabrine- Why am I pathetic? I admit my comment was overly emotional, but before you make a hurtful remark to someone you should know the facts. I had just buried my 2 cats after finding them dead in my backyard. Someone had shot both of them, so excuse me if I was too happy to find out the eaglets were still alive.

  • @crazycatkathy Oh, I am so very sorry to hear about your cats. Our pets are family, and when they die, we grieve.

  • HancockWildlifeFndn- Thank you so much for your comment. I am very passionate when it comes to animals, any animal, and I know it can come across as extreme at times. I frustrate my family and friends because I will only kill flies, roaches, mosquitoes, fleas, ticks and the like. I don't kill spiders, snakes or mice like most people. I look at all creatures with a sense of awe. Just now on my road, I saw an owl swoop down after something. Absolutely breathtaking sight. Again, thank you.

  • The nest was simply horrible. Once of the worst I've ever seen.

  • It's people whowho can't feel for other creatures that are pathetic.

  • oo no

  • @crazycatkathy So horrified at what happened to your beloved cats! I buried my 15 year old calico two years ago, she died of feline dementia. But I can't imagine someone shooting a beloved pet. Must be some crazy neighbor. I hope you called the cops! Seriously, I am so very sorry. Janice
