And all you had to do was become a pop star. It's not like he was completely changing who he was. He was changing what type of artist he was. Plus, he still gets paid from Ice Ice Baby 22 years later. Had he said no and stuck to his roots, we'd never know who Vanilla Ice was and he'd probably never make it like he did. A number one hit(first hip hop song to do so), an album that sold 15 million copies, and fame and fortune. Sure it lasted only a year and a half but he accomplished a lot.

Everyone getting on him for selling out would've done the same thing. It was 89/90. Rap was not as big as it soon went on to be. Ice wanted to be heard nationally. Staying true to his roots was not selling albums and getting him national attention. He was white. He had no choice but to go the pop star who raps route. Besides, what 19 year old wouldn't take 1.5M? 1.5M to record an album, tour the country and world, and become famous.

Whatever, you would have sold out too. Most Rappers whatever their race, that say they are from the street are not.

why is he pronouncing vanilla with an 'r'?
